Doha, December 11 (QNA) - The Global Carbon Council has signed two significant agreements with S&P Global Commodity Insights (SPGCI) and Climate Impact X (CIX), aimed at transforming carbon market by providing enhanced liquidity and ensuring market integrity.
council has signed a new Registry Services Agreement with S&P Global Commodity Insights (SPGCI).
This agreement marks beginning of a new chapter of collaboration between council and SPGCI, aimed at serving new-generation carbon market implementing GCC2.0. SPGCI will provide council with its comprehensive registry services for transacting ACCs and ARECs through its Environmental Registry platform.
This partnership will ensure integrity and confidence of carbon market by exclusively tracking issuance, transfer, retirement, and cancelation of carbon credits through council Registry.
The council is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and transparency in the carbon market in line with international best practices.
Under the new agreement, the council Registry operated by S&P Global Commodity Insights will be the sole platform for tracking all activities related to carbon credits issued by the council Projects, ensuring all transactions are conducted securely and reliably, thereby fostering trust among market participants.
the council has also entered into a strategic tri-party agreement with S&P Global Commodity Insights (SPGCI) and Climate Impact X (CIX), a leading carbon market solutions provider based in Singapore.
This strategic collaboration is set to revolutionize the carbon market by providing project developers with streamlined access to global buyers and enhanced liquidity.
As the councils issuance of high-quality ACCs continues to grow, this integration addresses a critical market need: enabling project developers to efficiently monetize their credits while offering buyers at CIX transparent, credible, and verifiable carbon credits.
Leveraging SPGCIs robust infrastructure, the council-CIX connection ensures that the council credits transacted on this platform are seamless, secure, and fully compliant with international best practices.
This alignment between a trusted registry and a leading marketplace and exchange underscores the shared commitment to fostering greater market participation and integrity.
Commenting in this collaboration, Founding Chairperson of the Global Carbon Council Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al Horr, said on this occasion, the three-party collaboration will unlock new avenues of liquidity for the council's project developers, creating far-reaching opportunities to scale up carbon offsetting initiatives and drive meaningful environmental impact.
By joining forces with Climate Impact X and leveraging S&P Global Commodity Insight's Environmental Registry, the council will enhance its capability to facilitate the seamless trading of high-integrity carbon credits issued by the council.
Dr. Al Horr added that he reflects on the incredible journey of the council program, it's clear that its efforts have earned global recognition, with over 1,500 submissions from GHG mitigation projects across 45 countries, highlighting that the agreement signed today will further expand the council program, helping foster sustainable development and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Head of Environmental Solutions at S&P Global Commodity Insights, Jonty Rushforth, said that today marks a renewal of longstanding partnership with the council, as well as a new era for carbon markets., adding that at COP29 in Baku, he sees first signs of revitalization.
The collaboration that S&P Global Commodity Insights has forged with the council and Climate Impact X will play a key role in building a stronger and more transparent market.
He pledged to advance integrity and liquidity in carbon markets, and working together, will drive growth and create new opportunities for climate action in the years to come.
For his part, Head of Exchange at Climate Impact X, Ellery Sutanto, said COP29 has reignited optimism for carbon markets, with progress on Article 6 and alignment among key players, stating that the next step is to turn these agreements into action.
Sutanto emphasized that he is so excited to be a part of this strategic partnership with the council and S&P Global.
By connecting to a wide network of registries, CIX is building the critical infrastructure to scale market liquidity, enhance transparency and unlock financing for impactful climate solutions.
The main goal is to bridge buyers and sellers, creating more opportunities to access quality credits, and driving the evolution of a more liquid and efficient carbon market, he said.
The COP29 conference, which recently concluded in Azerbaijan, has revived hope in carbon markets by making tangible progress on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and strengthening consensus among key parties. However, it was noted that the next challenge lies in turning these agreements into real actions, added Sutanto.
the council is the first international carbon credit program based in the Global South.
It supports the transition to a low-carbon future by issuing carbon credits to GHG emission reduction projects globally.
